Fractionated Co2 Laser

A CO2 fractional laser is a skin-resurfacing treatment that uses carbon dioxide gas lasers to improve skin texture and tone by creating controlled micro-injuries. It's used to treat wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and other skin irregularities by removing outer layers of skin, which triggers the body's healing process to produce new, healthy tissue and collagen.

How it works

  • The laser emits infrared light at a wavelength of 10,60010 comma 60010,600 nm, which is highly absorbed by water in the skin.
  • Instead of treating the entire skin surface, a fractional laser creates a grid of tiny, microscopic "dots" of injury, leaving surrounding skin intact.
  • This fractional approach allows for a faster healing process compared to traditional lasers.
  • The controlled damage to the skin triggers the body's natural healing response, boosting collagen production and regenerating healthier, stronger skin cells.

What it treats

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars, including deep ice pick scars
  • Sun damage and pigmentation disorders
  • Stretch marks
  • Dilated pores
  • Overall skin texture and firmness

Potential side effects and recovery

  • Common side effects can include redness, swelling, peeling, and sensitivity.
  • The risk of infection is possible, so it's important to follow aftercare instructions, which may include using prescribed antibiotics and antivirals.
  • Recovery can take several weeks, and patients must limit sun exposure and avoid scratching the skin to ensure optimal results.
